Sonny Falls – All That Has Come Apart / Once Did Not Exist

posted in: Review | 0

A personal journey through one man’s years, Ryan “Hoagie Wesley” Ensley’s third release as Sonny Falls sheds light on memories both pleasant and painful in an affecting stream of conscious style that recalls Elliott Smith or Sun Kil Moon. With a penchant for quiet moments building into powerful guitar peaks, Ensley crafts an epic album that feels more like an hour long story than a rock record. Through recalling a family life split between Indiana and Chicago, years in the city working dead end jobs, drug experiences, and parties gone awry, we get to know Ensley like he’s a friend sharing snippets of his past. Exquisitely sequenced, with a pristine flow, All That Has Come Apart / Once Did Not Exist is one knockout work that you would have to dead inside to not enjoy.

Standout tracks: “People On Porches” “Roses Rotting in Your Glass” “Winking Buick” and “All That Has Come Apart”
