The Union of Musicians and Allied Workers “aims to organize music workers to fight for a more just music industry, and to join with other workers in the struggle for a better society.” This Friday, the Chicago chapter of UMAW will be hosting a virtual event featuring Fran, Cordoba, Tenci, and other Chicago area musicians and speakers. The Union of Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW) Chicago is hosting its first event, a special livestream via Hideout Online January 8th at 7 PM. The fundraiser benefits the DIY CHI Mutual Aid fund, which helps provide COVID-19 relief to members of Chicago’s underground arts and music community. This livestream will include performances from Chicago artists Lala Lala, Ariel Zetina, Fran, Cordoba, Tenci, and others along with programming from local organizations, a raffle, and more. Tickets can be purchased at noonchorus.com/hideout.The Union of Musicians and Allied Workers aims to organize music workers to fight for a more just music industry, and to join with other workers in the struggle for a better society. UMAW Chicago formed in response to the pandemic and is now the largest chapter in the country. Its on-going initiatives include demanding fairer deals from streaming services, more just relationships with labels, safer and more equitable guidelines for venues, and developing shared resources for early-mid career artists.
